Interesting numbers
1.7 kg × 365 ≈ 620 kg of food per year (including water content).
Twenty years at this rate equals more than 12 tonnes of food.
In v1 national and global averages use the same value. That is a deliberate simplification.
What this metric tells you
Food, weighed in grams, makes for a surprisingly heavy life. Ever Since Birth treats average daily intake including water content as 1.7 kg and spreads it from your birth date to today. The result is in kilograms. After ten years you see about 6 tonnes, after thirty years nearly 18 tonnes. That invites truck and elephant comparisons, but comparisons are for curiosity, not agricultural statistics.
In v1 the national average and global average share the same value. That is a deliberate simplification. In reality cuisine, income, climate, and age move this figure. The data model still has two rows, both at 1.7. Country sensitivity lives in carbon, electricity, and total water, not food.
Confidence is medium. It is a general average that shifts with culture and climate in real life; the model uses one value. There is no fake precision and no diet logging—only scale curiosity.
The mini calculator opens only the food card on this page. It does not log meals, count calories, or recommend diets. The formula is the same: seconds lived times daily rate divided by 86,400.

Deep dive
1.7 kg per day is a rough weight including water in food and drink, not a dry plate portion. Diet, culture, and income differences are not modeled separately.
The card does not count calories or macros. Kilograms climb toward tonnes over the years; comparisons are for curiosity, not official nutrition tables.
How does the weight of food you eat add up?
Daily food consumption per person varies by culture; the reference is 1.7 kg/day (edible portion). Nutrition and activity surveys roughly pull consumption up or down.

Core formula
result = seconds lived × (daily rate ÷ 86,400)
86,400 is seconds in one day. The daily rate is divided by that to get a per-second pace; multiplied by seconds since birth it yields total accumulation.
Step by step
01
Calculate the time axis
Seconds since birth are the denominator for all consumption metrics.
02
Apply the 1.7 kg/day average
The daily kilogram rate is divided by seconds and multiplied for accumulation.
03
Reflect diet preferences
Choices such as vegetarian, vegan, or high protein scale the daily rate by percentage.
